Good read. The most good you can do by Peter Singer.
This is about effective altruism. If you are going to give away your money how can ensure you give it to the most effective resources? More than that if you've decided to give away money what is the best job that you can do? There are some extreme examples in this book of individuals who are give away 90% of their income and choose jobs (say in banking) because that will earn them more money to give.
Learnt a lot about measuring outcomes of giving money and the characteristics of those who give more. There seems to be a level above $100 where individuals think through in more detail about the actual use of their money rather than responding to the emotion of, say, a picture of a baby. Effective altruists like to see the data. What is the most cost effective?
Introduced me to the meta-charity Givewell - which rates charities on how effective they are, and to Givedirectly - a charity that gives money directly to the poor in Kenya and has conducted randomised controlled trials to evaluate how it works.
